Sara K Joiner is the author of the historical novel After the Ashes published by Holiday House. After the Ashes is about Katrien, a young girl who lives on Java in the Dutch East Indies in 1883. She loves science and observing the natural world. When Krakatoa erupts, Katrien is forced to flee farther into the jungle, and the only person who agrees to her plan is her hated rival, Brigitta.

Sara has also written novels set during the Great Depression, the French Revolution and World War I England.

She is a librarian and has purchased materials for children and teens and been responsible for overseeing the children's and teen services at multiple branches.

In her spare time (ha!), she reads, goes to the movies and watches far too much television. She also enjoys traveling and has been to all of the United States, seven Canadian provinces, three Mexican states and 15 other countries (16 if you count her visit to the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Washington, DC — which she does). You can see photos of her travels (and her cats!) on her Flickr page and follow her on Twitter.

Sara is a graduate of Texas Lutheran University and earned her master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
